Bobby May is the Managing
Director of the Matini Group, his career
started in the 1970s serving an apprenticeship
in pipe fitting and welding, studying at
a Birmingham technical college combined
with working on sites around the UK on general
pipe services. At the end of his apprenticeship
he joined a company servicing the dairy
industry, working on the installation of
one of the largest dairies in the country,
which at the time was Unigate located in
Perry Barr Birmingham. During this project
and subsequent contracts he was fully trained
in Tungsten Inert Gas (T.I.G.) welding of
stainless steel.
Over the following years he was involved
with the prefabrication and installation
of a number of food, dairy, soft drinks
and beverage projects as a fitter/welder.
He progressed within the organisation and
was promoted to site foreman responsible
for leading a team of engineers on installation
contracts. In 1995 his role further developed
to undertake pipework installation and documentation
of works in the pharmaceutical industry
as an on site engineer. In 2000 Bobby decided
to become an independent contractor and
established Matini Process Pipework.
